Goats for Two Poor Communities Project 27-0727-01 Please find below information about some of our most interesting projects:
Romanian Carphatian Project – Dairy
Sheep on Mountain Peaks Cattle Project in Javgur, Republic of Moldova #27-0718-01 Most farmers in this area of Moldova live under the limit of subsistence, having an income of about 0.5 USD / day, so Heifer International wishes for the farmers to achieve self-reliance and to be able to support themselves at the end of the project. Heifer Romania will distribute 50 good quality heifers in the commune of Javgur (3 villages: Javgur, Maximeni and Artimonovca) in order to improve the farmer families’ nutrition and increase their income. Goats for the Roma Community in Deaj #27-0715-01 funded by Heifer France This project follows the same pattern of the project in Nemsa in order to assist the underprivileged ethnic groups such as the Roma group. Heifer France funds the purchase of 180 goats and 15 bucks to 30 poor Roma families in the village of Deaj. The project is also designed in partnership with the Resource Center for Roma Communities, because of their focus on Roma communities. Corus Microcredit Project # 02 543 Rabobank Rabobank Foundation funded another microcredit project in Corus village, through the help of an experienced partner in microcredit field, CAPA in order to create a distinct fund of mutual loans for the community of Corus and neighboring villages. The microcredit will help farmers improve shelter conditions, increase number of livestock and start income generating activities. The microcredit loans total 85,000 Euro. Roma People’s Goat Project in Nemsa #27-0714-01 funded by Heifer Netherlands Romania has about 2 million Roma people. This project will provide 180 goats and 15 bucks to 30 poor Roma families in Nemsa village and 9,000 tree saplings to improve the village’s environment. According to CEE surveys, one Roma out of six is “constantly starving” and unemployment reaches levels of 80% or more as they lack the marketable skills necessary to find jobs. The project is designed in partnership with the Resource Center for Roma Communities, which is specialized in assisting Roma communities. Goat Project in Cobadin #27-0713-01 The cooperation between Heifer International and World Vision International resulted in another project, which addresses poor families in South of Romania willing to work hard in order to improve their income and nutrition. Within 2 years, 20 families from Cobadin commune will receive 10 goats each and 1,000 semen doses of Saanen buck will be supported by Heifer France. Cattle Project in Pojorâta - Phase II #27-0716-01 The Cattle Project in Pojorata – Phase II comes as a completion of Phase I, with the purpose of extending the project to the neighboring villages of Sadova and Valea Putnei and strengthening the community of Pojorata by adding new project beneficiaries to the initial group of recipients. To this purpose, Heifer Romania will distribute 50 Romanian Spotted heifers to 50 farmers of Pojorata, Valea Putnei and Sadova villages. Rabbits for Farmers in Radeni, Republic of Moldova #27-0717-01 Facing the same poverty as in Javgur village, Moldovian farmers in Radeni applied to Heifer to receive rabbits and to be assisted in rabbit breeding. Heifer Romania will help families, especially women and children, to improve their lives by raising rabbits. Villagers will improve their nutrition and income through the sell of the meat and breeding rabbits. The project will distribute 480 rabbits to 40 farmers (10 does and 2 bucks per family) and provide them with animal breeding training. Livestock for Unemployed People in Rachitova #27-0712-01 Rachitova commune is situated in an area that faces massive unemployment due to the closing of the mines (90% of the commune population is unemployed). Heifer International distributes 30 Romanian Spotted quality heifers and provides animal breeding training to farmers in order to provide self-employment opportunities. Livestock for Orphans in Orhei, Republic of Moldova Project funded by Bothar Ireland Taking into consideration the success the second project in Moldova already achieved, Bothar Foundation decided to fund a project that would help another orphanage. Thus, in order to improve the orphans’ nutritional and life status 5 dairy cows and 12 rabbits will be provided along with vocational agriculture and livestock breeding training. The Gymnasium Orphanage from Orhei hosts 240 orphans. Poultry for small communities #27-0711-01 The project is a result of the cooperation between Heifer Romania and World Vision Romania and addresses poor unemployed families with many children. 6,000 broilers and 1,600 egg-layers were distributed to 4 poor communities in central Transylvania: Aghiresu, Camarasu, Iclod and Fizesu. The final goals of the project are preventing urban migration and helping farmers start entrepreneurship activities. Trout Fish Project in Cozanesti Project 27-0705-01 Located in Carpathian Mountains, Cozanesti village has a harsh climate, few resources but beautiful cold clean running waters. In order to develop small-scale fish farms and to improve family income, Heifer Project Romania will provide within 3 years trout fingerlings to 30 families as well as training. Small Farm For Orphans in Giurgiu Project 27-0709-01 “Bethel Foundation” is located in Giurgiu, a town in South of Romania, bordering Bulgaria. The foundation came together in 2000 in order to help homeless children or with disabilities. Heifer Project Romania will provide the school with 6 saws and 500 chickens as well as vocational agriculture training for children. Farmers Feed The Children 3-H Grant in cooperation with Rotary International - Project 02-1386 The project is designed and developed in cooperation with Rotary International and it will provide nutritional supplements to hospitalized children, orphans and children with physical or mental disabilities. It will develop a sustainable economic process and community service for farmers. They will produce and provide dairy products, beef, poultry and eggs through a processing and distribution network. Heifer Romania will be involved in all farming activities. Co-sponsors: Rotary Club Little Rock, USA, Rotary Club Cluj-Napoca, Romania Dairy Cows Project in Sofia, Republic of Moldova Project 27-0706-01 The first project in Moldova starts in Sofia village, located in the North of the country where most farmers live under the limit of subsistence. So Heifer International wishes for the farmers to achieve self-reliance and to support themselves at the end of the project. It will distribute 50 heifers to improve the farmers' nutrition and increase their income and also 200 semen doses to improve the breed. Livestock for Hearing Impaired Children in Hirbovat, Republic of Moldova Project 27-0707-01 The second project located in Moldova starts in 2002, having as target children with hearing disabilities hosted by Special Boarding School in Hirbovat. This project has as main goals to feed and offer vocational training for these children. Heifer International will provide 6 dairy cows, 24 rabbits, 50 hens, 1000 carp fingerlings and 10 beehives. Sheep and Goats Improvement in Topolog - Phase II Project 27-0703-02 This second phase was created to sustain the initial project. It is developed together with Heifer France. Basic equipment will be provided, farmers will be trained in goat breeding, milk processing and cheese production. HPR will monitor the group progress in order to support families in need to become self-reliant and to improve the local goat breed. Vadu-Izei Microcredit Project Project 01.500 Rabobank Rabobank Foundation funded another microcredit project in Northern Romania, this time having Cooperativa de Credit Tisa from Sighetu Marmatiei acting as a third part. The latter helps offering advice and distributing loans among farmers in Vadu-Izei and neighboring villages. Furioso - North Star Horse Revitalization Project 27-0704-70 in Jucu Village In Romania, during Communist rule, tractors were favored on the large state-run farms. Nearly half of the country's horses - over 600,000 - were killed. Now farmers got back their family land and they need horses. Within five years Heifer Project Romania (HPR) will provide 45 families with 45 Furioso - North Star mares in Jucu. This local horse breed will be maintained and will provide draft power for small farmers. Small Scale Fish Production in Pojorita and Dorna Candrenilor Project funded by Bothar - Ireland Having good results in developing livestock projects, the groups of Pojorita and Dorna Candrenilor received funds from Bothar Foundation to purchase 500 fingerlings and 25 kg of special pellets to each of 20 families selected. Thus, it improves the economic and nutritional status of the families. Sheep and Goats Improvement in Topolog Project 27-0703-01 Rising small ruminants, goats and sheep is an old tradition in the dry and rocky part of Romania, located between Danube and Black Sea. Two hundred goats five bucks and twenty rams distributed to hundred families improve the milk production and consumption. The project started in 2001. Ileanda Community Pig Project Project 27-0702-01 Ileanda, a commune formed by fourteen small villages that lay along Somes River Valley and the poor hills around, has a typical Romanian story. The sixty saws and four boars provide higher level's protein food for family consumption. The trade of the piglets insures a small income for people in need. Dorna Candreni Microcredit Program Project 99544 Rabobank - Netherlands Using an experienced partner in microcredit field the local Credit Cooperative, Heifer Project Romania created a distinct fund of mutual loans for the members of Dorna Candreni Animal Breeders Association. The waiting period for loans is maximum 18 months. The microcredit is up to 750 USD. All fund for the project were provided by Rabobank Foundation. Cattle Project of Pojorita Project 27-0701-01 Rising animals in a communist way led, in the small village of Pojorita to the degeneration of the local cattle breed. With a milk and meat productivity very low, with little government support, few resources and poor soil, farm families in this village are on the limit of surviving. 50 families received a pregnant pure-breed Romanian Spotted heifer to improve their nutrition and income. Caminul Felix Dairy Project Project 27-0790-01 Caminul Felix came together officially in 1996 for the purpose of creating a self-supporting orphanage capable to protect and educate homeless children. 20 Holstein heifers were delivered by HI in order to increase Dairy Product consumption in the orphanage. The product sale above their own needs cover current expenses in order to achieve the self-supporting goal. Hungarian Minority Dairy Program in Panet Project 27-0780-01 The population of Panet is composed of ethnic Hungarians whose families have been in this area of Transilvanian Romania for ages. The families live in harmony with their neighbors. Heifer Project Romania distributed 20 pregnant heifers and cows to 20 families in 2 years in order to increase both milk yield and income of the families. Small Farm Development of Telciu Project 27-0770-01 The PRO PAEM Foundation was organized and legally constituted in March 1996 to work with communities for social, health and livestock programs. Unemployment is high as many young families returned to the village after factories where they worked were closed. Heifer Project Romania distributed 26 Brown Suisse heifers to an equal number of families over a period of two years, in order to increase family nutritional levels and income. Vadu Izei Dairy Cow Program Project 27-0760-01 Vadu Izei village has an organized group of almost 50 farm families who are quite active. An inadequate income and the high cost of food, has caused a moderate and seasonal malnutrition in the village. 30 Brown Suisse heifers were distributed to 30 families by Heifer Project Romania in order to provide better nutrition for families and increased income trough local milk sales. Dorna Candrenilor Cattle Improvement - Phase II Project 27-0750-41 Thank to Rotary International support for founding a second phase of the project, the distribution of another 40 Romanian Spotted cattle improved the quality of the local breed and motivated farmers to organize their own pasture. Dairy Cows for Cristiana Association Project 27-0740-01 Cristian Village is located close to a large industrial area Brasov, so many people had found employment in factories there. Currently as a result of economic changes many came back to the village and try to make their living from farming only. The main purpose of this Heifer project was to improve the local breed of cattle by distributing 20 Maramures Brown heifers to 20 selected farm families. Dairy Cattle Improvement
in Corus
Project 27-0720-01 Corus is a village located close to Cluj-Napoca. There are 220 families with a very low income and about 20 families do not have any permanent income. HPR provided 1,000 doses of Simmental sires semen for artificial insemination of cows. Thus milk and meat production of the local cattle was improved and it helped the economic income of 834 farmers. Small Farm Development in Bologa Project 27-0730-01 People from Bologa were accustomed to living under very difficult circumstances. Their work has helped them to survive, but since the local quarry closed there had been very few working opportunities in their region. 30 Romanian Spotted heifers were distributed by HPR among 30 families in Bologa in order to improve the economic and nutritional status of these families. Dorna Candrenilor Cattle Improvement Project 27-0750-01 The project operated in the Dorna Candreni commune, which includes the villages of Poiana Negri and Dorna Candreni with the intent of improving the local cattle and protecting the environment. Heifer Project Romania distributed one cow to each of 50 selected families in need. Pig Breed Improvement in Corus Project 27-0720-01 After a fruitful and reliable cooperation with the farmers in Corus, Heifer Romania started another project, this time distributing 32 pigs to families in need. The general purpose of this project was to improve meat production nutrition and farmers lives by offering productive pigs and at the same time to improve the income level of the families involved. |
